Did Starbucks CEO just take a jab at Christian customers?

Did Starbucks CEO just take a jab at Christian customers?

In this country, we’re continuing to have a secular, socialist agenda shoved down our throats. Talk about a strange marketing approach – even a major corporation is effectively telling us to pound sand if we don’t agree with gay marriage.
Stories have been circulating for some time about Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz supposedly telling shareholders at their annual meeting, “If you support traditional marriage over gay marriage, Starbucks doesn’t want your business.”
Well, that isn’t exactly the case. According to Forbes, in response to a question from a shareholder whom the Huffington Post identified as the founder of the Corporate Morality Action Center, which supports traditional marriage, Schultz did say the company’s decision to support gay marriage “was not an economic decision to me. The lens in which we are making that decision is through the lens of our people. We employ over 200,000 people in this company, and we want to embrace diversity. Of all kinds.”
To the shareholder Schultz concluded, “If you feel, respectfully, that you can get a higher return than the 38 percent you got last year, it’s a free country. You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company. Thank you very much.”
Fair enough. It is a free country. I don’t have to invest in a company I don’t believe in, and I’m free to never buy an overpriced cup of joe from them again either.
But let me get this one straight. A private mom and pop shop goes through hell for not wanting to bake a darn cake for a gay wedding, but this publicly-held corporation is applauded for saying we don’t want your money to everyone who doesn’t think like them?
Wait, let me take a breath.
Is this not the pot calling the kettle white? (Didn’t want to say black and be called a racist). These guys are giving Jim Crow a run for the money.
Well I say let’s give them what they’re asking for. Until this morally bankrupt society actually feels it in the pocket, people will not listen. We’ve had protest after protest from the LGBT community to force us into accepting every last thing they want. They’ve forced many of us to go against our own beliefs to accommodate them and their lifestyle. Try being a clerk who has to issue marriage licenses these days.
Just imagine if the corporate stance was reversed — you’d have the Obama administration making a freaking statement about how this is not what America is about.
I’m not one to often call for boycotts. However, I do hope that we all speak very loudly about this with our pocketbooks. If we continue to accept this, then this country is worse off than even I thought. Now “we” are the ones being assaulted, ridiculed, and mocked.
No one should have to live a life in fear. Isn’t that one of the things people in the LGBT community have said? How is it that attacking “normal” Americans has become the norm? Pretty soon it won’t be long before even saying the words “traditional values” will be classified as hate speech.
This is sickening. I’m sticking to Chick-fil-A for my coffee.
