Read These Tweets About the ‘Inevitable’ Return of the ‘Caliphate’ — the Bigger Story Could Be Who Actually Wrote Them
A senior adviser to the Department of Homeland Security claimed on Friday that the takeover of Iraqi cities by a deadly terrorist group is evidence that the return of a Muslim “Caliphate” is “inevitable.”“As I’ve said b4 inevitable that ‘Caliphate’ returns,” Mohamed Elibiary tweeted. “Choice only whether we support [European Union] like Muslim Union vision or not.”
Elibiary, a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council, was apparently responding to a question about the radical terror group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria that is sweeping through Iraq, the Washington Free Beacon reports.
The controversial comment came after Elibiary mocked CNN’s coverage of ISIS’ “hudod rules.” He said it reminded him of “how we were outraged pre 9/11 by #Taliban banning white socks” for women.
Here’s how the conversation unfolded:
As previously reported by TheBlaze, Elibiary is an openly controversial official who has come under fire for comments about the U.S. and Islam.
Late last year, he claimed the United States of America is “an Islamic country with an Islamically compliant constitution.”
In September of 2013, Elibiary was criticized for using the controversial “R4BIA” four-finger salute symbol associated with the Muslim Brotherhood in his Twitter profile picture.
He defended the use of the symbol, saying he’s not a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and he can still support the group while at the same time being a “proud American.”
