selecting our governor

selecting our governor

I have an idea for selecting our governor that would take the teeth out of the Democrats gerrymandered redistricting and the overwhelming population advantage the I-25 corridor has in the selection of governor. I believe we should select the governor in a manner similar to that of the Electoral College that selects the President. Our country is a republic and not a true democracy so we should select the leader of the state in a similar method. The method should be balanced between population and area. I am looking for feedback on this and will be sending it to our representatives in Denver for theirs as well.

Here is my suggested method:

Gubernatorial Selection Commission

The governor would be selected by the majority vote of a State Gubernatorial Commission. Each member of the commission would have one vote. The members of the commission would be similar to this:

1) Each County would have a single elector selected by the county commission of that county. This would result in a geographic balance of electors based on the areas of the various counties resulting in 64 electors.

2) Each legislative District would have a single elector based on the vote of the people of that legislative district. This part would provide for some weighting by population. This would result in an elector for each district or 65 electors.

It is my suggestion that we prepare an initiative for the ballot of 2022 to propose this method for a constitutional amendment to the Colorado Constitution.
