Do You Work in One of the Most Conservative or Liberal Professions? This Revealing Chart Shows You.
The Huffington Post and app-maker Verdant Labs
compiled a list of
political party leanings based on occupations. Some of the results from
their data are quite surprising, while others just make plain sense.
First, let’s look at the most Democratic professions, via
WaPo [Click to Zoom]:
As can easily be seen, almost all environmentalists are liberals.
However, how could one have guessed that professional poker players
are likely to be left-leaning?
Here are some other Democratic-leaning professions of note:
- Midwife
- Flight Attendant
- Psychiatrist
- Architect
- Yoga Instructor
- Innkeeper
- Chef
- Gardener
- Carpenter
Now, for the Republicans:
While it’s just obvious that a Beer Wholesaler would be a
right-leaning type, what about Neurosurgeons? It looks like Republican
presidential candidate Ben Carson is in good company with his
professional colleagues.
Also Republican of note:
- Pawnbrokers
- Surgeons
- Urologists
- Cattle Feeder
- Chairman
- Truck Driver
- Talk Show Host
As a side note, it looks like Beer Wholesalers and Innkeepers run
into a lot of interesting (and possibly beer-fueled) political debates.
It is also interesting to note that truck drivers are far more likely
to be Republicans, while taxi drivers tend to vote primarily Democrat.
In order to make these charts, Verdant Labs took data from the
Federal Election Commission of party donors and their occupations.
