A few days after Barack Obama’s swearing-in as the first African American President of the United States of America in 2009, the world’s most powerful man and his family were at Chicago to address the masses.
Obama addressed the crowd with a motivating speech but what he said before concluding it, left everyone in tears, including his children and TV Anchor Oprah Winfrey.
President Obama said to the crowd, “I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the past 16 years, the rock of our family, the love of my life, the nation’s new First Lady, Michelle Obama”.
Then the young President threw his arms around his wife and whispered, “I love you”.

Michelle and Barack Obama have touched lives through their love. Skeptics who believe that love fades away with time or it exists only in the Disney world could just for once view the beautiful life that Michelle and Obama share.
Barack Hussein Obama met Michelle La Vaughn Robinson in the summer of 1988.
He was in Chicago at that time. Obama had just completed his first year of law at Harvard and had taken up a job at Sidley & Austin law firm.
Through his earnings, he hoped to return the student loan that he had taken for his studies.

Obama was a quick learner with a sharp mind. Michelle worked at the same firm. She was assigned to be his mentor. It was then that she became his secret crush.
He was struck by her beauty.
They met each other regularly at work. She even took him out to a few parties. Obama had not adopted any style as such. He was clumsy with his dressing and often wore mismatched attire.
But Michelle, who was always cautious about her style never complained.

With time, Obama plucked up courage to ask her out. But Michelle refused. Obama didn’t lose hope. He kept asking her, hoping that one day she would eventually say. “yes”.

Obama’s intellect was obvious and noticed by all. Michelle was unaware of it till she became his mentor. His vision seemed so clear and real that she could not help but develop respect and love for the man.
She knew he was special. But she was his mentor at the firm and thought it wouldn’t be appropriate for them to get involved in a relationship.
Then one day, Obama offered to quit his job, if that’s what it would cost to have her. Finally, Michelle softened and agreed to date with him.
On their first date, Obama treated her with Baskin-Robbins ice cream.

Michelle once mentioned in one of the interviews, “after our first date, we clicked right away and by the end of it I was sold.”
He had joined the firm for student loans that would get him good education, but little did he know that his crush for the tall, beautiful lady would get him his first date and a life time partner.
Since then, their love continued to blossom as they faced life trials and happy days. With each passing day they understood each other more closely.

They supported each other through rough times and the good ones. Michelle’s father died in 1990. Obama helped Michelle overcome that phase.

Finally after dating for over three years, they decided to marry.
One day Obama took Michelle out to dinner under the pretext of finishing his bar exam. He had arranged for a romantic candlelit dinner.
Obama had arranged for a waiter to slip in the ring along with their meal. When the waiter served them dessert, she was left speechless as she gazed at the beautiful diamond ring perched on top.
Obama then asked her hand in marriage.
Michelle and Obama became husband and wife on 3rd October 1992. While taking their marriage vows, Michelle said that Barack had never pledged riches.

He only pledged a life that would be interesting. The US President has so far lived up to his vow. At the wedding Michelle wore a beautiful off-shoulder white gown.
The couple has been blessed with two beautiful daughters. Malia Ann Obama was born in 1998 and Natasha Obama was born in 2001.
Barack Obama is now serving his second term in a row as the President. Hence by now he has given several speeches.
Obama is no doubt an eloquent speaker but more beautiful than that is the fact that  Obama mentions Michelle in almost every speech he delivers.

They have been married for 21 years now. Even then, Obama never forgets to wish her on Valentine’s Day or her birthday.
Once Michelle and Obama were asked about the secret of their long lasting love- Obama said, “Like every marriage, I think you have your ups and your downs.

But if you’ve worked through the tough times, the respect and love that you feel deepens.”

Though Barack and Michelle share a beautiful life, they too have had their share of turbulence.  But at the end of the day, Mcihelle Obama is the President’s biggest supporter and his most trustworthy critic.


The couple understands the importance of spending quality time with one another. Even with their busy schedules, they manage to cull out time for each other.
During the hours that they get to spend together, they laugh a lot. They keep their conversations light and enjoy every moment together.  They spend time with their daughters too.
Unlike many other politicians, Obama takes his girls along with him on foreign tours, when time permits. Malia and Natasha simply adore their father. They are as stylish as their mother.
The four of them make a beautiful family.
