A
former top Obama administration official acknowledged efforts by her

Russia before he took office, MSNBC reported.

Deputy assistant secretary of defense Evelyn Farkas said she urged people on the Hill to get "as much information as you can ... before President Obama leaves the administration."
“Because
I had a fear that somehow that information would disappear with the
senior [Obama] people who left, so it would be hidden away in the
bureaucracy ... that the Trump folks -- if they found out how we knew
what we knew about their ... the Trump staff dealing with Russians --
that they would try to compromise those sources and methods, meaning we
no longer have access to that intelligence,” she said.

Farkas'
confirmation of the intelligence collection surfaced a week after House
intel committee chairman Devin Nunes had announced that information
about Trump and his associates were "incidentally" gathered during the
investigation into Russia's involvement in the 2016 election.
Democrats have denounced the way in which Nunes had handled the discovery because he informed the White House before his colleagues on the House committee. They have requested his recusal from the House investigation.
