Two Climate Change Activists Try to Trip up Ted Cruz, He Takes Them to School Instead
GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz has a reputation not only for standing up and defending conservative principles, but for his amazing ability to keep calm and engage folks in debate and conversation without getting rattled or falling into the trap of “gotcha” questions.Cruz recently put his superpowers on full display when he encountered two different climate change activists who did their best to work him over, but ended up getting totally schooled.
This is why I love this guy.
From The Right Scoop:
A liberal activist named Tyler, with question in hand, was hoping to create a bad media moment for Ted Cruz by trying to force him to answer ‘yes or no’ on whether he denies the existence of Climate Change. But Tyler apparently didn’t know who he was up against as Cruz rejected his premise and then proceeded to school him on Climate Change. It was major fail for Tyler, but his friend Kaity would try later (below). Here’s a transcript from the video above:
Tyler- “Lobsters are moving to colder waters due to climate change. You deny the existence of climate change, correct? We can get to that later. You voted against the National Endowment for the Oceans which is designed to protect coastal economies like this one. My question is, how can you come here when your voting record basically says you don’t care about this community?”Video #2:
Cruz- “You know what’s interesting about voting records and communities if you look at what’s happening in the last six and a half years people are hurting across this country, their losing their jobs. We’ve got the lowest percentage of Americans working since 1978. And what’s happened under the Obama-Clinton economy? The rich have gotten richer. You know the top 1%, the millionaires and billionaires the president demagogues against all the time? Today earn the highest percentage of income of any year since 1928. The reason I am running for President is to bring back an environment of jobs and economic growth and opportunity because the people who are hurting right now are young people, Hispanics, African-Americans, are single moms. So when you talk about a community here, people here want jobs and economic opportunity and they’re getting hammered.”
Tyler- “Especially in the lobster business which is where you are and if you don’t mind answering my first question do you agree that you deny the existence of climate change?”
Cruz- “Well in the legal business..”
Tyler- “It’s really a yes or no question.”
Cruz- “It’s not a yes or no question. Sir I’m happy to answer your question but I’m not going to engage in a cross examination. If you would like my answer I will give you my answer. Which is that public policy should follow the science and the data.”
Tyler- “Which says climate change exists.”
Cruz- “Sir I told you I’m not going cross-examined. Let’s step back for a second and look at this with some historical perspective. Thirty to forty years ago there were a group of political liberal and scientists who said we were facing global cooling. They said we were headed toward a global ice age and the solution to global cooling was increased was massive government control of the economy, the energy sector, and every aspect of our lives. Then the data disproved it. It was not in fact correct that we were seeing global cooling. So that was kind of a problem. Then many of these same political liberals, and many of these same scientists they then latched on to a new theory, it’s called global warming. And the new theory of global warming interestingly enough, the solution was the exact same as the solution had been for global cooling. It was massive government control of the economy, the energy sector, and every aspect of our lives. But then the problem became the data and evidence didn’t back up global warming. In particular if you look at the satellite data. Listen I am the son of two scientists and mathematicians. It is the essence of science to look to the evidence. In the last eighteen years there has been no meaningful recorded warming according to the satellite data. So all of a sudden all these political liberals, the evidence and data didn’t back them up. So then the theory changed to a third version, it’s just been in the last few years when the theory magically transformed into climate change. And climate change from the perspective of a political liberal who wants government power climate change is the perfect pseudo-scientific theory. Why is that? Because it can never be disproven. Whether it’s hotter or colder, whether is wetter or drier the climate is always changing. Now you asked a question, ‘do you believe in climate change?’. Of course! From the dawn of time the climate has been changing. Until the end of time the climate will change. And yet interestingly enough the political liberals, their solution to climate change is exactly the same as it was to global cooling and global warming. Massive government control of the economy, energy sector, and our lives. And when you start to see politicians who propose the exact same solution to every problem regardless of the facts or the data you start to think these are politicians who just want power over our lives. You know what I’m interested in? I’m interested in the single moms who are working here who are struggling to feed their families and are seeing their electric bills skyrocketing because these political liberals are driving up their electric bills, driving up their energy bills, making it harder and harder to provide for their kids. We need to follow the facts and data and not just give power to a bunch of out of touch elites in Washington over our lives.”
Here’s a transcript for the second video.
Kaity- “I’m a recent graduate of the University of New Hampshire. Thank you. One thing I learned is that the Gulf of Maine is warming. That’s causing lobsters to move off shore. I learned that in my university, a public university. That is caused by climate change. So are you saying that you disagree with what public universities are teaching students?”Owned.
Cruz- “Do I disagree with what public universities are teaching? Absolutely yes. By the way I’m a (something) professor at the University of Texas School of Law so I have been an academic.”
Kaity- “But you’re not a climate scientist. Would you want climate scientists coming into the work that you do.”
Cruz- “I’m happy to have this discussion but actually a colleague of yours asked the identical question five minutes ago.”
Kaity-“I’m a New Hampshire voter and I want to ask you about this.”
Cruz- “I literally just had a five minute discussion in depth on this exact same question.”
Kaity- “I’m really frustrated. I feel like it’s very hypocritical of you to be using the lobster business in New Hampshire and voting against laws that impact communities.”
Cruz-“Kaity I believe the policy will follow science and if you look at the scientific data and the satellite data.”
Kaity- “I have I am a student of that data.”
Cruz- “And what does the satellite data demonstrate in the past seventeen years?”
Kaity- “Why don’t you tell me your talking points?”
Cruz- “It’s actually not talking points. It is the data. You should follow the evidence.”
Kaity- “I do follow the evidence.”
Cruz- “The satellite data shows no meaningful warming whatsoever.”
Kaity- “Absolutely they do. 2014 has been the hottest year on record globally.”
Cruz-“I would encourage you to just go an look at the data.”
Kaity- “I spent four years studying this.”
Cruz- “I promise you…”
Kaity- “Why do you disagree with me you are not a scientist.”
Cruz- “Both my parents are scientists and mathematicians. My father was a geophysicist.”
Kaity- “Are they climate scientists?”
Cruz-“My father was a geophysicist.”
Kaity- “That’s different.”
Cruz-“There are many political politicians who want power over the economy and who are disregarding what the scientific data shows. With all respect. Look, education is supposed to teach you to question. Your opening premise was ‘what my professors told me in school therefore it is true.”
Kaity- “You know what? You’re right.”
Cruz- “You know what? I went to Harvard Law School. I had professors who would say.”
Kaity- “You are absolutely taught in college to question what you’re taught so I went and did my own research. Absolutely you are.”
Cruz- “College today.”
Kaity- “Then what were you teaching in college, your students not to question?”
Cruz- “I absolutely teach my students to question.”
Kaity- “So why wouldn’t my professors? Why would the University of New Hampshire not do that?”
Cruz- “Can I ask you Kaity, is there a single issue on any public policy issue whatsoever that you disagree with the standard liberal position?”
Kaity- “Probably.”
Cruz- “Can you name one?”
Kaity- “I’d rather not right now. This is what I really care about. Climate change. This is what I really care about. This is what I’m voting on.”
Cruz- “And your professors are engaging in indoctrination rather than teaching facts and evidence.”
Kaity- “That is absolutely untrue.”
Cruz- “I would just encourage you to question what they are telling you.”
Kaity- “I do. I question you.”
Cruz- “But have you ever questioned the left?”
Kaity- “Absolutely, every day.”
These two loony lefties have probably never been challenged by an intellectual giant like Cruz who actually uses facts and sound logic to reach his conclusions on an issue, which is why they came across as complete amateurs.
One thing is for sure. If you’re going to take on Ted Cruz, you better come with facts and real data, otherwise you’re going to get eaten alive.
