Dr. Oz: Chloroquine Treatment Could Be ‘Biggest Game-Changer of All’
“There was actually pretty big news today. There was a paper that came out yesterday that was being discussed but didn’t get the attention that I thought it would that a paper from France that the use of an old drug, the malaria drug together with the Z-Pac seemed to dramatically impact on this virus,” Dr. Oz said.
“But I’ll give you the biggest fact of all. In this study, they shortened the amount of time the patients excreted the virus down to six days. The norm is approaching 20 days. That completely changes the behavior of the virus. Which means it may be actually more like a flu virus in its impact on us.”
Dr. Oz continued, “It’s still dangerous but now as contagious. If drug that has already been on the market for 65 years could be effective in treating a new virus, yes there are potential side effects, there are eye problems that potentially arise, we know that we use these drugs commonly.”
“But I think it’s worth the chance. And we should be doing the study starting today! And we’ll know in six days. In the meantime the task force is going to liberalize use of these medications,” he concluded.
Using full capital letters on Twitter, Trump announced that “HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE & AZITHROMYCIN, taken together, have a real chance to be one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine.”
“The FDA has moved mountains — Thank You! Hopefully they will BOTH (H works better with A, International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents) be put in use IMMEDIATELY,” Trump said.
President Trump has previously referred to a drug as a potential “game-changer” that has been reportedly producing strong results in trials involving hospitalized American patients.
This is expected to include hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug that has shown potential in battling coronavirus.
“It’s shown very encouraging early results, and we’re going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately,” Trump said.
“And that’s where the FDA has been so great.”
“The therapies are something we can move on much faster potentially,” he said.
“Treatments that will be able to reduce the severity or duration of the symptoms.”
President Trump announced that he has directed Federal Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Stephen Hahn to waive “outdated rules and bureaucracies.”
Trump argued this will assist with the testing of various “anti-viral therapies” to combat coronavirus.
Daily Caller added:
Trump added that the FDA “has also confirmed compassionate use for a number of patients.”
The president added that the White House task force and private companies will still “work toward a much needed vaccine in the future.”
