SATAN: A SYMBOL OF THE LAW
Deliver him to Satan?
“to deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the SPIRIT may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” (1 Corinthians 5:5)
What was Paul talking about here? Is he talking about a “real Satan as we know it”? If that is what you think, the are many questions from this.
Where would they see Satan?
does he has a place that we could go and and deliver people to? NO!
I have for some days now been saying that audience relevance is very important. The word “Satan” used here by Paul is referring to the old covenant (i.e. the party of the law sect; Pharisee or Judaism). That is why Paul says that deliver him (that man) to that “old covenant” so that on the day on the Lord, his flesh would be destroyed. The day of the Lord is the same as the last day of the old covenant (A.D. 7O).
Let us look at the verses that follow.
Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, even as ye are unleavened. For our passover also hath been sacrificed, [even] Christ: wherefore let us keep the FEAST, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. (1 Corinithiaans 5:7-8)
These verse speaks about the New Covenant. In which they have come to Christ through the death of him (our Passover lamb). Jesus death brought in the new leaven, and took away the old leaven. So Paul urges them to keep the FEAST (THE UNLEAVENED BREAD OF TRUTH), but not with the old leaven (Which is the old covenant/ Judaism).
Since the Christ has come, they should put of their old self, and put on the new self which is created in holiness. Remember what he says in Ephesians.
You were taught, with regard to YOUR former way of life, to put off your OLD self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made NEW in the attitude of YOUR MINDS; and to put on the NEW self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are ALL members of one body.
(Ephesians 4:22-25)
There you have it. Their former way of life is their old religion of worship. Now they have been made new in Christ.
Secondly;
From the above verse (verse 5) one can see that, the person’s final destination is not in question. It is his flesh that is going to be destroyed.
No matter his acts, His Spirit would go and be with the Lord.
(Think about it)
We know from the Paul’s 2 Corinthians epistle, this brother was forgiven and brought back. Paul even pleaded that they forgive him and accept himback. (2 Corinthians 2:1-9).
If what Paul was talking about (verse 5) is a spiritual “Satan”, were would they have found him to forgive? Or even love back?
Would Satan be smart enough to runaway with him? (Lol)
Even a person, given to Satan, can even be love again and accepted back into the church/FAMILY.
Now listen to what Paul says again.
He uses the same word “satan” here in his 2 epistle to them.
I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. Another reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven —if there was anything to forgive —I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might NOT outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. (2 Corinthians 2:8-11)
Paul tells the Corinthians, they should forgive their fellow brother, so that Satan (the Accuers/THE LAW) will not outwit them. Meaning, the Pharisee and the Jewish Judaisers would not have cause to mock them. If that was the case, there would been any different between them.
The Idea of the law been “Satan” which the Jewish know, is from the Prophet Zechariah. The LAW was the SAtan mentioned.
Read carefully.
Joshua here means SAVIOUR. Who is Jesus.
Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?” Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you. “Then I said, “Put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the LORD stood by. The angel of the LORD gave this charge to Joshua: “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ’If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here. (Zechariah 3:1-7)
Joshua was wearing the filthy clothes of sins of the people. It was replaced with glory. This how the idea of law came in as the “Satan”. It was symbolic of the LAW.
Read carefully the following verses from the same chapter.
“’Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, WHO ARE MEN SYMBOLIC OF THINGS TO COME: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch. See, the stone I have set in front of Joshua! There are seven eyes on that one stone, and I will engrave an inscription on it,’ says the LORD Almighty, ’and I will REMOVE THE SIN of this land in a single day. “’In that day each of you will invite your neighbor to sit under your vine and fig tree,’ declares the LORD Almighty.”
(Zechariah 3:8-10)
These things are SYMBOLIC OF THINGS TO COME. Meaning it was in The future. (But to us, it is past)
The servant that was brought was Jesus Christ. And he was the one who remove sin from the face of the land in one day (on the cross). THE BRANCH IS JESUS (Isaiah 4). We are now sitting under the glory of Jesus.
Satan is no more. The law is no more. That is why Paul calls the law the doctrine of demons. By preaching the law, we introduce the Accuser (satan) into people’s minds.
Be at peace brothers. Live your life in PEACE.
Jesus reigns!
