Trump Repeals Yet Another Major Obama Green Regulation

President Donald Trump signed legislation Monday to repeal major-last
minute Obama regulation using the Congressional Review Act (CRA).
Alaskan Republican Rep. Don Young introduced the bill, which passed legislation through the House of Representatives in February, to repeal a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) rule limiting hunting and fishing on federal land in the Alaska. The CRA allows Congress to repeal new federal regulations within a certain time frame.
The Senate voted to repeal the rule in March over the objections of environmentalists, who argued it prevented the “slaughter of Alaskan bear cubs, wolf pups.”
“The resolution recognizes that states, like Alaska, have successfully managed their wildlife for generations and the hostile takeover by the national fish and wildlife bureaucrats would only screw it up,” Utah Republican Rep. Rob Bishop, chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources, said in a press statement.
CRA allows Congress to review new federal regulations issued by
government agencies like FWS. Trump’s signature means that the
regulation is effectively overturned.
“I thank President Trump for signing this resolution that reaffirms confidence in the intelligence and goodness of the American people, stopping the harassment from Washington ‘experts’ and curbing abusive overreach from the federal bureaucracy,” Bishop said.
Alaska’s state government opposed the hunting rule, claiming it created a system of top-down decision-making that was the opposite of what the law prescribes. Alaska filed a lawsuit against the Department of the Interior to overturn the rule.
This is only the latest in a string of efforts to roll back federal regulations.
Trump recently signed a CRA bill to repeal a Bureau of Land Management rule called “Planning 2.0.” Trump also signed a CRA bill to repeal the Stream Protection Rule that made coal mining more difficult.
