Obamacare oops

By Neal Boortz

Barack Obama really needs to get a hold of his White House staff. They clearly need to read their memos more closely or just stop being so plain ignorant.

Earlier in the week we had the big “oops” from Obama’s chief of staff Jack Lew, who tried to claim that the reason Congress hasn’t passed a budget is because Democrats can’t get 60 votes in the Senate, pinning the blame on Republicans and their unwillingness to compromise. The problem is that the Senate doesn’t need 60 votes to pass a budget resolution, only 51 votes. But Obama’s last budget failed by a Senate vote of 97-0 … so Jack Lew doesn’t need to worry about 51 votes, much less 60.

Now we have acting White House Budget Director Jeff Zients. He visited Capitol Hill yesterday for a little hearing on ObamaCare. It went a little something like this:

Rep. Scott Garrett: “So if I am part of a family that does not buy health insurance in violation of the President’s health care program and I got to pay because of that, that is not a tax incre – that is not a tax on me?”

Acting White House Budget Director Jeff Zients: “The Affordable Care Act saves money.”

Rep. Garrett: “I understand that, but is that a tax on me then if I do not pay that, or is that not a tax?”

Zeints: “I’m not sure I’m following the question.”

Rep. Garrett: “You said there’s no tax increases on people who make under $250,000. If I make under $250,000 and I do not buy health insurance as I’m required to under the Affordable Healthcare Act , is that a tax on me or is that not a tax on me?”

Zeints: “Well this is –”

Rep. Garrett: “A moment ago you said there’s no tax increase.”

Zeints: “There aren’t.”

Rep. Garrett: “So that’s not a tax?”

Zeints: “No.”

Rep. Garrett: “That’s not a tax. Okay. I just want to be clear on that because that’s not the argument the administration is making. Let’s move on — before the Supreme Court.”

Did you catch it? Obama’s own budget director just claimed that the individual mandate of ObamaCare is not a tax. Well … it’s not a tax when you’re answering questions from a congressional panel. But what happens when you wander down the street to defend the ObamaCare mandate before the Supreme Court? Suddenly – out of the blue – it becomes a tax! That’s right, in order to try to get the Supreme Court to put its stamp of approval on the mandate, Obama’s lawyers will argue that the mandate is just fine because it is, after all, just a tax. Why? This way they can say that the ObamaCare mandate is just hunky dory because “requiring individuals to buy health insurance is an exercise of Congress’ taxing authority.”

While arguing in the courts that the mandate is a tax, the Obama administration doesn’t want the dumb masses to know this, because then that would mean that Obama is breaking his promise not to increase taxes on those earning less than $250,000.

The only reason Obama can have it both ways on this is because the mainstream ObamaMedia won’t tell you about the conflicting arguments. They don’t want to mess with their “sort of a God.”
