Report: Saudis helped ‘Muslim side’ of Obama’s Kenyan family go from ‘rags to riches’

WASHINGTON — The Kenyan family of President Barack Obama has become wealthy and influential through its efforts on behalf of Saudi Arabia, a report said.
The report, titled “The Obamas’ Wahhabist Fundraising Empire,” said that Obama’s uncle and grandmother have become the leading lobbyists for the Saudis in Kenya.
The Shoebat Foundation said Obama’s inauguration in Washington made his relatives one of the richest and most influential families in western Kenya, Middle East Newsline reported.
“After President Obama was inaugurated, the Muslim side of the Obama family in Kenya boomed,” the report, dated Oct. 11, said. “It went from rags to riches overnight. They became one of the most influential families in western Kenya and even extended their sphere of influence to Saudi Arabia.”
The report cited Obama’s step-grandmother, Sarah, who traveled to the Saudi city of Mecca for the annual Muslim pilgrimage in October 2011. Sarah traveled to Mecca with Obama’s first cousin, Mussa, where they were “provided a special escort with full security detail and first-class treatment at the Saudi royal court.”
The Saudi royal family also helped established a fund in Sarah Obama’s name. The report quoted Mussa as saying that the fund, which claims to help
orphans, was also providing scholarships for Kenyans to study in Wahabi seminaries in the Saudi kingdom as well as Qatar.
“The bulk of the Sarah’s benevolence fund, as Mussa explained, goes toward scholarships destined for Saudi Arabia’s most virulent Wahhabi Sharia
centers — the Islamic University in Medina, Umm Al Qura University in Mecca and the University of Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University in Riyad,” the report, based on open sources, said.
In the interview with A-Jazeera, posted by Walid Shoebat, a former Muslim and PLO operative, Mussa said the U.S. president directed his relatives to communicate to the White House through his uncle Said Hussein
Obama. Sara and Said were the only family members who attended Obama’s presidential inauguration in 2009. “The nature of the visit [to Saudi Arabia] was to facilitate scholarship to send students to Umm Al Qura,” Mussa told A-Jazeera. “When they [the students] submit an application to Sarah Obama Benevolent Fund, they expect to get what they want. But we are flooded.”
The report, quoting the Saudi media, said Said works with the Saudi state-owned Muslim World League, whom he visited in October. The league was said to maintain numerous links with Al Qaida. “If Mussa’s claims are true, that Said is Barack’s preferred point of contact with his Muslim family and that Said is dealing with the MWL, don’t the American people deserve to know the extent of their president’s connections and loyalties to these individuals and groups?” the report asked.
