The Chicago Way in Obamaland

The Chicago Way in Obamaland

The Chicago Way in Obamaland

By Tom Trinko

Obama's crony Chicago politics is coming to the fore yet again. In Chicago, it's not what you can do that counts, but who you know.
As long as Obama is running America, it will be Obamaland -- where what's good for Obama is all that matters -- not America, where the government is "of the people, by the people, and for the people".
In Obamaland all men are not equal; instead men are judged by who they voted for, and how often. To eat at the public trough in Obamaland, you have to be on Obama's side -- 80% of the dollars in the green energy 1705 program went to Obama supporters -- just as in Chicago you have to be on Rahm's side to get lucrative city business.
The union bosses who pushed so hard to pass ObamaCare now realize that they are in deep trouble; they won't be able to keep their cushy jobs if the rank and file realize that the sudden loss of hours and/or healthcare benefits of union members is due to the union bosses supporting ObamaCare.
As a result, Obama is trying to figure out a way to provide relief to unions and only unions. Of course, that's unconstitutional vote buying at its most obvious, but if you're from Chicago that's business as usual.
This union bribe would make the money Obama routed to his green energy friends -- so that they could make big bucks before going bankrupt and sticking the taxpayers with the bill -- seem like a kid's allowance. Hundreds of billions of dollars are at risk, money we don't have, which will either be paid off by all Americans through inflation or by our children and grandchildren.
But in Obamaland it's not what's good for the country that counts but what's good for Obama that drives everything. Obama doesn't need our children's votes so it doesn't matter if they get ripped off.
The same reasoning explains Obama's sword rattling on Syria. Obama pushed for a strike on Syria; not because it was in the U.S.'s best interests but because it was necessary to preserve Obama's personal credibility. You can't have Obamaland if Obama has flaws, after all. If Obama really cared about America rather than himself he wouldn't have been loudly condemning the war in Iraq, a war voted for by Congress, when he was a senator.
These latest "put Obama first" actions are merely continuations of a style of "ruling" that has characterized Obama's whole life. During his first campaign Obama threw his minister and even his own grandmother under the bus because both actions were good for Obama; after all Obama couldn't admit to admiring a racist bigot and portraying the grandmother who raised him as a racist helped get Obama votes.
The whole Benghazi narrative is yet another example of the Obamaland rational. Obama believed that because he is so friendly to Islam -- "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam." -- there was no longer a threat from fundamentalist Muslims. Obama set the tone for the government which is why no one thought it necessary to provide extra protection to Americans in Libya, a country known to have weak security and lots of Islamists, on 9/11/2012. Basically Obama got it wrong, big time.
But that truth could have imperiled Obama's run for president, and since it's all about Obama that could not be tolerated -- the only place the buck can stop in Obamaland is in one of his cronies' pockets. As a result a whole fake narrative was constructed and sold to the American people. The government knew there was no riot and they knew that the skillfully planned attack, which was almost defeated by the beyond heroic actions of a few Americans, was completely unrelated to any anti-Islam movie trailer.
Not only was it okay to lie to the American people, Obama felt it was perfectly okay to persecute an innocent American in order to protect Obama.
Of course, given that Obama thinks of himself in Messianic terms, it makes sense that he believes that anything that benefits Obama is good and necessary no matter what the cost to others. Obama spoke of his nomination as the Democrat candidate for president with these words:
...we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth.
Clearly Obama thinks of himself as the world's great hope, for in Obama's mind prior to his arrival no one cared for the sick and there were no good jobs. In Obama's mind, Obama is the mythic hero who will save the world and bring peace in our time.
In the context of Obama's view of himself as the only thing standing between mankind and the gaping maw of doom and devastation, it makes sense that all that matters is protecting Obama, for without Obama we are all lost.
Obama's supporters stick with him because they're either emotionally invested in who they believe him to be -- rather than who he is -- or because they're on Obama's "nice" list and Obama will shower them with gifts paid for by the sweat of others brows.
It's time to take a stand against Obamaland and for America or we'll all end up living in Chicago 2.0 where everyone in government is on the take and justice is only for the favored.
