Many parents love uploading pictures of their youngsters to social media. This can be a great way to show off their bundles of joy to their friends and family. However, this nanny shares a photo of her daughter and her boss notices something strange. Sometimes, it can be the smallest details that give us the biggest clues in life. It looked as though this nanny was about to get more of a surprise than she ever believed – all thanks to one simple upload.

A suspicious vibe

It looks as though many of us need to get our daily dose of social media love if we’re going to make it through the week. New mothers are no exception. Many enjoy sharing photos of their youngsters as they enter the next stages of their life.


However, it was one photo of her daughter that was going to see this nanny head under the microscope. Her boss took a closer look at the upload only to notice something very strange staring her straight in the face.

The root of it all

The whole story began back in 2010 when Emily welcomed her son, Blake, to the world. He was three months old, but Emily already learned that being a mother was a lot more than she ever thought.

The mom began to look for a nanny, and it wasn’t long before she found the perfect woman for the job: Ashley Bemis. Little did Emily know, but inviting Ashley into her home was about to change her life and the lives of many other families in the neighborhood.

A grand announcement

It wasn’t long into the job that Ashley realized she was a natural. The nanny had found her true calling in life as she took to caring for Blake like a duck takes to water.

She wasn’t the only one that was impressed; Emily was more than happy with her choice of nanny. The pair soon grew close, and Ashley soon had some big news – she had fallen pregnant. Emily knew her new nanny would make the perfect mother and couldn’t wait to help her along the way.

Coming along fine

The next few months seemed to fly by as Ashley continued with her pregnancy. Emily thought everything was passing without a hitch. The nanny was lucky enough to avoid most morning sickness and was keen to show Emily all the ultrasound scans.

Plus, her boss regularly overheard Ashley on the phone to the doctor, so assumed everything must be healthy with the baby. It was as if Ashley was going through a healthy pregnancy just like millions of other women in the world.

Growing suspicious

Being at home at the same time gave Emily and Ashley plenty of time to talk about their pregnancy stories. Emily couldn’t believe how well Ashley was coping with it all, but she was also worried.

The nanny hasn’t slowed down her work since announcing her pregnancy. Now, Emily was concerned that caring for Blake was becoming too much. It was after one shift that Emily sent Ashley straight home. Little did Emily know what she was about to uncover.

Uncovering the truth

Emily watched as the nanny started to walk down the street, but what was she doing? Ashley reached up into her top only to pull out something that looked like a pillow. Emily couldn’t believe her eyes.

Why would Ashley be walking around with something up her shirt? Also, where had her baby bump gone? Things didn’t add up. Emily couldn’t believe that Ashley would lie about such a thing, but everything seemed to start fitting into place.

Forgetting the picture

As much as she tried, Emily couldn’t shake the image of her nanny with a pillow up her shirt out of her mind. Her eyes must have been playing tricks. There was no way Emily had witnessed such an elaborate lie.

It wasn’t until this moment that the mom began to think back over her conversations with Ashley. The more she thought, the more Emily realized she had listened to a whole host of unbelievable stories from her nanny over the years. They were almost too over the top to be true.

An online check

It wasn’t long before Emily’s concerns made her worry about how well Ashley could care for Blake. Her suspicions were so strong that Emily decided the only way to clear her mind was to carry out an online search.

She soon uncovered a social media page that was about to give her the answers she had been looking for all this time. However, they weren’t going to be the ones that she wanted to hear. In fact, they were about to cause even more issues than Emily ever believed.

An unknown girl

Emily searched through pages and pages on the internet until she stumbled across one that had been made by Ashley. Perhaps this would give her the answers she needed?

However, the page wasn’t for Ashley, but her daughter, Cheyenne. Emily scrolled to the comments where she read about Cheyenne who required surgery if she stood a chance of surviving, and was asking for donations to find the treatment. However, Emily knew that Ashley had no children with that name.

Searching for the truth

At last, Emily knew she had to trust her gut if she was going to catch out her nanny. She knew that Ashley had no daughters, and was convinced she had made up the entire pregnancy.

Although Emily had no idea why Ashley would create a false page or use a pillow to fake a baby, she knew there had to be an ulterior motive. Emily continued to scroll through the page in search of answers, but couldn’t help noticing how similar the photos were. There was a good reason, too.

Using a stand-in

There were no photos showing Cheyenne’s face, but there were enough details that Emily could take a closer look at the baby in the pictures. It was none other than Blake.

It turned out that Ashley had been taking the youngster and dressing him in girls clothing before posting the snaps online. Emily had no idea how to react after learning the truth. She was utterly disgusted her nanny had broken her trust in such a way. Emily needed to act.

Enjoying the money

There was no way for Emily to see how much money Ashley had been able to take over the last few months. However, the mom needed to put an end to her plan before Ashley fooled even more people.

The first thing Emily did was fire the nanny before filing for a restraining order. There was no way Emily wanted Ashley near Blake again. Although Emily still felt unsafe, she felt much more relaxed to know that Ashley was gone. This was just the beginning of it all.

Living a double life

Emily had no idea that Ashley had been using Blake as part of her plan for the last year. It turned out that everyone who met Ashley had been told she was his mother. That wasn’t all.

Ashley had grown particularly close with Katie, another mother who had been with her child at Gymboree. They two women became instant friends as they bonded over their little ones. It was around this time that everything began to crumble in Ashley’s world.

A web of lies

Now Emily had fired Ashley, it looked as though she would need a brand new way to cover her tracks. There was no Blake in the picture meaning the nanny no longer had access to her “son.”

It wasn’t long before Ashley had the perfect cover to tell Katie. She rang her friend in tears as she recalled how Blake had been in a fatal collision. Although it was a huge lie to say, Ashley hoped this would be the easy way to end her story.

Creating more stories

It might be easy to assume that getting caught out by Emily would be enough to halt Ashley in her tracks. However, it seemed as though this nanny was more determined than ever to create a fake life for herself.

It was in 2012 that Ashley made a new friend. However, her companion didn’t believe the lies she was hearing. Ashley explained how she had lost her husband to a terminal illness, that her two-year-old had passed away from a heart defect, and she was now pregnant once again.

A caring companion

The woman was worried about her new friend and wanted to ensure Ashley had everything she needed for the new baby. Although Ashley’s baby bump was getting bigger, no one had any idea that it was a graduating pregnancy suit.

Her new friend decided to throw a surprise baby shower where Ashley was inundated with presents worth hundreds of dollars. Rather than using them for the fake baby, Ashley merely sold all the gifts and kept the money for herself.

A number of times

It turned out that Ashley had been caught out at various points throughout her life. It wasn’t long before the nanny’s lies eventually caught her out, and she was invited as a guest on the talk show Dr. Phil.

It was during her time on the show that Ashley admitted to having fabricated eight children over the course of her conning career. All she needed to do was steal photos from real mothers to make it look as though they were her own. Ashley would then lie about her children passing away.

Desperate for children

It turned out there was a reason that Ashley had been creating these stories all these years, and they came to light during her time with Dr. Phil.

The nanny admitted it had always been easy to create a fake life to make it feel as though she was a mother. Although Ashley knew what she did was wrong, she was in the media once again in 2018. This time, there were no children in sight – it was all about the Californian wildfires.

Begging for help

The wildfires soon took control of most of the state, and Ashley used her deceptive ways once more. She took to social media where Ashley explained how her husband was one of the many firefighters tackling the blaze.

Now, they were low on supplies. Ashley was hoping strangers would donate money and goods, and it wasn’t long before she had $11,000 worth of supplies as well as money to put towards the cause. Sadly, it was all a ruse.

Noticing holes in the story

It wasn’t long before many people that had donated noticed how Ashley’s story just didn’t seem to add up. They contacted the authorities to put a stop to it all.

Not only had Ashley made up an entire story about her husband, but she had also pocketed all the donations herself. Many were devastated by how Ashley could go to such lengths to create a tale that felt so real. How could someone lie about wildfires that had affected so many peoples lives in real ways?

All catching up

It seems as though the world has finally caught up with Ashley as the police are currently investigating her actions over the past few years.

Although we may never understand what caused the nanny to create such elaborate tales, at least she is now in the hands of the authorities who can hopefully find a fitting punishment. For now, Emily and the many other families affected by Ashley’s actions can begin to piece their lives back together following the traumatic event.
