IRS Lerner Corruption Goes “All Way To White House”- Trey Gowdy
Congressman Jason Chaffetz of Utah says it clearly, “You can claim your Fifth Amendment right, but you can’t also make a statement. She waived that right; she’s going to come here. She says she’ll be glad to come up to Capitol Hill if we’ll give her immunity. We’re not interested in giving her immunity. She may have to pay some consequences for what she did or did not do.”
Lois Lerner’s attorney is saying she will not come back unless a court compels her or she is given immunity. Congressman Trey Gowdy lays out the options available to Ms Lerner and to the Congress on how to move this case forward. He supports Congressman Chaffetz’s assertion saying, “We’re never giving her immunity.”
He said she needs to come clean about what she’s done and then the House will decide if they would rather have her as a defendant or a witness. Gowdy says right now he’d rather have her as a defendant.
He also dismisses the idea of going to a federal court as taking “forever.”
Gowdy says the justice department is not doing its job, that they should already be prosecuting this case. But “they won’t do their job so we’re going to have to do it for them.”
He continues saying he thinks Lerner connects this scandal “all the way to Washington.”
