The editorial last week (Thursday May 3,
2018) on “Time for A Carbon Tax?” was interesting, the first time I
have been called a “Free Rider.” Yes, I am a very small producer of
natural gas. It didn’t come easy.
I can agree with a tax on carbon if
carbon proves to be the singular problem. But why stop taxing on
“mining, drilling, and other activities.”
How
much carbon is there is a ton of alfalfa hay? How much carbon has
passed through or emitted by a 900 lb steer ready for butcher to eat.
How much CO2 is being exhaled hourly by the 7+ billion people and
billions more of warm blooded animals? How much heat are we all
dispersing daily to the atmosphere.
It
seems unfair to tax the 14 (plus or minus) million barrels (or
equivalent) of oil/natural gas/condensate the U.S. produces daily, and
not tax the 86 (plus or minus) million barrels the rest of the world
produces daily.
If we all would go down, live under the bridge, quit eating and breathing —our problems would be over... Think about it.
