MSNBC Blames the NRA For The Boston Bombing

AUTHOR John Hawkins

To a hammer, everything is a nail, and to an MSNBC Talking Head Progressive such as Lawrence O’Donnell, everything that goes wrong in the world can somehow be traced to the NRA. Immediately after the Boston bombing, when everything was still blood and chaos, O’Donnell took to the airwaves to indict the true culprit – the NRA.
As far as O’Donnell is concerned, the NRA’s mission to protect and preserve the Second Amendment means that it is “in the business of helping bombers get away with their crimes.” Because the NRA opposes taggants in gunpowder, O’Donnell charges it with guaranteeing that “American mass murderers are the best-equipped mass murderers in the world.”
There are new developments tonight in the bombing investigation here in Boston, but that investigation could be moving faster were it not for the successful lobbying efforts of the National Rifle Association. The NRA’s efforts to guarantee that American mass murderers are the best-equipped mass murderers in the world is not limited to murderers who use assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. The NRA is also in the business of helping bombers get away with their crimes. Gunpowder could be traced by investigators to a buyer at the point of sale if gunpowder contain a taggant, an element that would enable tracing of the purchase of gunpowder. But thanks to the National Rifle Association, identification taggants are required by law only in plastic explosives. The NRA has successfully blocked any requirements for such taggants in gunpowders, so such extremely helpful evidence as taggants are not available to the FBI in this investigation.
Since O’Donnell went on that anti-NRA rant, a few things have happened. Using good, old-fashioned detective work, law enforcement identified the bombers, one of whom was subsequently killed (by his own brother) and the other one eventually captured. In addition, the bomb was determined to have been a home-made kitchen bomb, done with helpful instructions from al Qaeda. Taggants were not – ever – an issue. O’Donnell, however, has not apologized.
Nor will O’Donnell ever apologize. Liberals were certain that Tea Partiers, or conservatives, or “gun rights nuts” were responsible for the bombing. When that turned out to be untrue, they simply switched the narrative. Sure, the Tsarnaevs were Muslim, but the real reason for the bomb was because America didn’t treat them right.

[And then comes this article from the Boston Herald that seems to indicate that maybe we did treat them right, at least until 2012, but I am sure there are those that would say that had they continued to receive benefits that maybe he wouldn't have bombed us. DGP]

Boston Herald: Tamerlan Tsarnaev Received Welfare Benefits

On Tuesday, Massachusetts Health and Human Services spokesperson Alec Loftus confirmed to the Boston Herald that deceased Boston bombing 'Suspect 1' Tamerlan Tsarnaev received welfare benefits from the state until 2012:

State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter. The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said those benefits ended in 2012 when the couple stopped meeting income eligibility limits.
Loftus also told the Herald that Anzor Tsarnaev and his wife Zubeidat received welfare benefits for themselves and both of their sons, Tamerlan, age 26, and 'Suspect 2' Dzhokhar, age 19, when they were children. Typically, welfare benefits for dependent children stop at age 18, so Tamerlan received welfare benefits through his parents as long ago as 2005.
The Tsarnaev family, of Chechnyan origin,  first came to the United States around 2002 from Dagestan, a republic of Russia where many Chechnyans have settled.
The Herald also reported that Tamerlan Tsarnaev took a one-month-long trip to Dagestan during 2011 while he, his wife, and daughter were receiving welfare benefits. A second, longer, six-month-trip to Dagestan taken during the first half of 2012 may also have taken place while he was receiving welfare benefits.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev's journey to Islamic radicalization, it appears, was financed in part by taxpayers.
According to the Herald, "[t]he Tsarnaevs were not receiving benefits when they allegedly bombed the marathon, killing three and injuring 260."
