Overpasses for Obama's Impeachment organized in all 50 states
By Dean Chambers
It started with a group of people who
attracted national media with a demonstration on a California highway
overpass demanding that Congress impeach President Barack Obama. Soon
this lead to the concept of a national movement of volunteers organizing overpass protests for Obama's impeachment. The movement, called Overpasses for Obama's Impeachment, is growing rapidly across the nation with goals of protests in all states this summer.
The Overpasses movement is now organizing and exists in all 50 states of the country. For each state group there is also a Facebook group
that volunteers and join to communicate with and contact the organizers
in their own state for those interested in getting involved. This
movement is showing how the combination of grassroots involvement by
citizens and effective use of social networking sites can be important
in building up a national movement quickly. This page hosted on a blog site called Ann Loves America lists the Facebook groups for the Overpasses groups in all 50 states.
That site says,
“All Americans have the right to participate in peaceful protests. James
Neighbors founder of Overpasses to Impeach Obama feels it is of
paramount importance to assure that ALL Americans throughout the country
have a chance to attend and exercise their First Amendment Rights. Many
times protests are only in Washington DC or at state capitals. People
who go to work every day and have people who depend on them cannot just
leave their jobs anytime to be part these historic protests. One of the
philosophies of this movement is to do it in a way that empowers and
encourages ordinary Americans and so their voices are heard.”
On August 6th, the Overpasses for Obama's Impeachment
groups will stand together for synchronized protests across the nation
in what the group has named “The Patriot Wave,” beginning in the Eastern
Time zone, and culminating on the West coast. Neighbors emphasized that
the protests will continue on a national level every week during the
Patriot Wave, and at dates across the nation as determined by their
state organizers.
By the end of the
summer, the group expects to have held events in all the states. The
protests will continue, the group says, until Congress begins the
process of impeaching the president.
“Just
that I would like Americans to take a long, hard look at the direction
America is headed. Is this a direction you want your children, or the
youth of America and future generations to inherit? If you answer is no,
I would implore them to join the cause. Once Congress is aware that We
the People have awoken from our slumber and are paying attention, we
hope and pray they will act in the best interests of the nation in the
future,” Neighbors said, urging citizens to look at the record of the
Obama administration and consider the argument for impeachment of this
president.
