Gohmert: A King Is Someone Who Makes New Law with a Pen and a Phone

(CNSNews.com) - When President Donald Trump said he could do anything he wanted, he was referring to firing special counsel Robert Mueller in the Russia investigation, despite how Democrats are trying to characterize his comments, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Monday at the House Judiciary Committee’s impeachment hearing.

Trump does not consider himself a king, but former President Barack Obama was behaving like one when he was in office, the congressman said.

“It is also outrageous to hear people say this man thought he was a king because he said he could do anything he wanted when they know that statement was in the context of whether or not he could fire Mueller and of course he could fire Mueller,” Gohmert said.

“He could appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Mueller and Wiseman, and I think he should have, but that's his prerogative, and he could have done anything about that that he wanted, to take that out of context, he thinks he's a king,” he said.

“A king is someone who says over 20 times I can't do that, Congress has to change the law on immigration and then decides I'll do whatever I want and by golly, he does. He makes new law with a pen and a phone,” the congressman said referring to Obama.

“Now, that is more like a monarchy, not somebody saying they can fire a special prosecutor if they want to,” Gohmert said.

The congressman took issue with the House Democrats accusing Trump of treason and their selection of witnesses in the impeachment trial.

“And regarding treason. the Constitution itself says you've got to have two witnesses, and that is not hearsay witnesses. None of the stuff that would be admissible and decent court. That’s two direct evidence witnesses that can come in and positively identify themselves, not something they overheard, but actually be witnesses to treason,” Gohmert said.

“And yet this group comes in here. They toss treason out in a report like it's no big deal. We can bring in a bunch of hearsay witnesses, and then we will have the lawyers testify and then throw a president out of office,” he said.
