Famous Law Professor: Charges Against Rick Perry Are Bogus… Here’s Why

August 17, 2014 Texas Governor Rick Perry has used conservative principles to create the economic success story that is happening in Texas right now.  He is encouraging other Governors to follow his lead, and start an ideological “rebellion” against the progressive left controlled federal government.
Perry has been quite outspoken against federal overreach, and is a frequent critic of President Obama and the Congress.  He has grown tired of waiting for action from them, and is working to lead Texas in securing the southern border on their own.
All of this has led to a spurned and disgraced District Attorney (who had been convicted of drunk driving) in a Democrat controlled county in Texas to file a criminal indictment against Perry, charging him with abuse of power, after he vetoed funding for that DA’s office when they refused to resign amidst controversy.
The charges are pretty obviously politically motivated, with even many liberals calling the charges bogus, including law professor Alan Dershowitz, according to Newsmax.
Dershowitz, who is admittedly not a fan of Perry’s, nevertheless said he is “outraged” by the indictments.  He said they are politically motivated, and a part of a “dangerous trend” of people using courts instead of the ballot box to effect political change.
“Everybody, liberal or conservative, should stand against this indictment,” Dershowitz said. “If you don’t like how Rick Perry uses his office, don’t vote for him.”
Dershowitz said that indictments against political opponents is something that is done in third-world totalitarian countries, and has no place in the United States.
“In America, you vote against them…this should be up to the voters. There is no room in America for abuse of office charges, and this has to stop once and for all. This is a serious problem.”
Dershowitz says that Perry was well within his rights to use his veto power to defund the DA’s office, citing her drunken driving conviction, and saying that a convicted drunk driver serving as a DA has no business enforcing criminal law on the citizenry.  He also believes the charges will ultimately be dropped, or Perry will be acquitted, if the case makes it to court.
Furthermore, it is believed by Dershowitz, among many others, that this blatant political stunt by the Democrats will actually backfire on them, and drive more support towards Perry.  Already, just the announcement of the indictment has catapulted Perry from mid-pack to frontrunner amongst the prospective candidates for the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination.
This indictment against Governor Perry is nothing more than a trumped up political attack by a disgraced DA, who embarrassed herself to the public, and is now lashing out.  The charges will not stick, and Perry will likely emerge unscathed from this attempt by Democrats to scandalize him.
