Obama’s New Socialized Housing Scheme to Make Neighborhoods More Diverse

The Obama Administration thinks your neighborhood lacks diversity. So, it wants to take steps to force “fair housing” across the country.
In a statement at a recent NAACP convention, Shaun Donovan, the Department of Housing and Urban Development secretary, said, “In too many of our hardest hit communities, no matter how hard a child or her parents work, the life chances of that child, even her lifespan, is determined by the zip code she grows up in. This is simply wrong.”
It should be noted that, despite Donovan’s claim, this isn’t about helping poor families get into better areas. This move is specifically about race and not economic need. If you are poor and white, the Administration is not planning to help you get into a better area.
The first step in this plan comes in the form of a new rule that would allow the feds to track the racial diversity in American neighborhoods. This will allow them to make policies where they feel an area has “discriminatory” practices. The policies to open up these areas include changing zoning laws, changing home financing policies, infrastructure planning and altering transportation routes.
The rule change is now open for a 60-day comment period and is generating a lot of heat. Ed Pinto of the American Enterprise Institute sums up what a lot of experts are saying, stating, “This is just the latest of a series of attempts by HUD to social engineer the American people. It started with public housing and urban renewal, which failed spectacularly back in the 50’s and 60’s. They tried it again in the 90’s when they wanted to transform house finance, do away with down payments, and the result was millions of foreclosures and the financial collapse.”
Many are afraid HUD will use its favored tool for its liberal agenda, the lawsuit. The department has already sued places like Westchester County and the city of Cortlandt in New York for allegedly unfair housing practices.
This is clearly another attempt by the Obama Administration to pass the buck on poverty from government ineptitude and personal responsibility and making it “other people’s fault”. Instead of looking at socioeconomic factors that have been shown time and again to contribute to poverty, it wants to take an easier route and blame poverty on a zip code.
If this becomes law and the government can declare who lives where, how close will be to real socialism?
